The Injustice to Dou E

Model Making final project in 1:48 scale. This design is a reimagining of the classic Chinese play in modern-day San Francisco Chinatown. I designed, drafted on Vectorworks, laser cut/hand-cut the pieces, assembled, and painted the model. The model is heavily inspired by Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area and SF Chinatown's Waverly Street.

Man of God

This theatrical production is based on the film style of Wong Kar-Wai with high contrast bright colors with the set dressing and lighting in fantasy scenes. The Bangkok hotel room is meant to act as a dollhouse- confined, leaving the girls to be watched by only God, their pastor, and the audience.

Created using Illustrator, Procreate, and Vectoworks.

Quake

Paint elevations for prop table and benches for the opera world premiere of Quake. Inspired by California coffee shops and Chicano art, I created paint elevations in Procreate, Photoshop, and Vectorworks. I choose the paint and stain, wrote general notes for the prop shop, and oversaw the production of these items.

Created using Vectorworks, Photoshop, and Procreate.

Designed Space, Scale Model Making

A TH155D project. I had complete creative freedom in making this model sample. I decided to combine my favorite architectural aspects of commercial stores into this bookstore. I drafted this model on Vectorworks, then hand-cut, assembled, and painted the 1:48 scale model.

Appropriate

A TH151A Scenic Design project. I wanted the space to emulate Greek amphitheaters, making the space in the house always a performance. Combined with rigid straight lines, the house is almost like an ancient building with a dark history that is destined to fall apart eventually. I drafted a ground plan and elevations on Vectorworks and sketched out my design.

Created using Vectorworks and Procreate.

As You Like It

A TH151A Scenic Design final project. I decided to take a contemporary approach to AS YOU LIKE IT, combining elements of museums and contemporary art exhibits as a metaphor for the ways that the truth is confined through structure. As the play progresses, the set changes to fit the court and forest settings, eventually combining into a final set.

Created using Procreate, Photoshop, Vectorworks.

Andy Warhol’s Tomato

A TH14A Intro to Scenic Design final project. While staying true to the confinements of the set being a bar attic, I wanted to add a dynamic feature of the set slighting coming off the stage to convey the transformation Andy goes through, but also to remind audiences that they are part of this world too. I created a white model first, then tweaked my original design to create a final color sketch.

Created using Procreate.
